Back when Never Mind The Buzzcocks was still on the air, a fresh-faced James Acaster made a memorable appearance as a guest panellist. His serious, deadpan delivery left regulars Noel Fielding and Phil Jupitus in hysterics, whilst his unashamed declaration of love for Wigfield’s 90s hit Saturday Night is worth a YouTube gander.

Acaster’s media credentials are vast, having also featured on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Russell Howard’s Good News and Mock The Week, as well as presenting his own show, James Acaster’s Findings, on Radio 4. The Kettering comedian’s awkward, yet inspired approach to comedy has won him a fair few plaudits, including being nominated four years in a row for best show at the Edinburgh Fringe. This year he gained further praise for his show Represent, which he will be bringing up to Barnard Castle’s The Witham on Saturday 28th November. The show is summarised by a quote from the Dalai Lama and a short self-description – ‘Nifty. Snazzy. 30 years old. Doing his best to improve his posture.’ Take from that what you will, but one thing’s certain, Acaster has a knack of making the everyday seem completely absurd – expect obscure rants about nothing of real importance and a man who looks like a nerdy Oxbridge post-grad being effortlessly hilarious.
