For those of you that have come out of the hairdressers looking less like a Kardashian and more like Cousin It, Darlington’s Be Premiere Hair are offering a rather different salon experience that won’t leave you disappointed.
Pop-up theatre extraordinaires Jabberwocky Market have led the town’s theatrical renaissance over the last few years, thanks to a variety of cutting-edge (sorry) site-specific performances.
In Good Hands, which takes place at a Blackwellgate salon on Saturday 22nd April, is no different. Set in the unorthodox yet authentic surroundings of Be Premiere Hair, it invites the audience into the curiously intimate world of one hairdresser and her client in rural Ireland. The plot seeks to explore the mountain of odd things that we’re prepared to discuss with strangers at the drop of the hat: as hairdresser Julie prepares client Grace for a big night out, the brief duration of a wash, cut and blow dry sees the two women discuss all manner of dramas from their small town, accompanied by a score of original songs and even a little help from the audience. Looking for a wildly different and utterly immersive theatre experience? Sounds like you’re in good hands indeed.
