It’s A Wonderful Life is something of an odd Christmas classic. Essentially a tale mostly wrapped in despair, the film has become a festive staple mostly thanks to its brilliantly uplifting ending alone. Frank Capra’s 1946 masterpiece has become a staple at the Tyneside Cinema over Christmas and this year is no different, with three different screenings just before the big day. On Friday 19th December, though, there’s a particularly special screening that’s followed up by the wonders of The Cornshed Sisters.

Let’s face it, there won’t be a dry eye in the house by the time Capra’s film ends. Perhaps that’s why the cinema have picked the Cornsheds to follow it up. Their brand of folk-pop is ludicrously uplifting, while their debut album Tell Tales tackled everything from waterbabies to men in sequined suits – all very festive, if you look at it through squinted eyes. If you’re up for some beautifully soothing folk to follow up a toasty winter classic, then the Tyneside have you covered.

It’s A Wonderful Life followed by The Cornshed Sisters takes place on Friday 19th December.
