After recently displaying works by some of their favourite artists featured in previous biennales, Northern Print are currently showing yet another selection of the best from 2014’s International Print Biennale. The IPB was started in 2009 and is the only event of its kind in the UK, welcoming visitors from around the world to see the regional events celebrating artistic print in all its forms.

The artists featured in the current exhibition were chosen from over 740 entries from across the globe. Rachel Gross, Katherine Jones and Bronwen Sleigh – all individual Print Award prize winners –  are displaying works in the exhibition. They’re joined by works from Canadian duo Seripop, who made their featured print for the 2009 biennale.

In addition, Northern Print are proudly displaying works by Birgit Skjold, who was instrumental in setting up the British Inernational Print Biennale in Bradford in 1962, which became the inspiration behind the organisation’s own biennale. Her work championed the use of printmaking in art by experimenting with various techniques including embossing, mixed media, Xerox printing and collage.

The latest exhibition by Northern Print is a fascinating insight into the history of the medium as well as a taste of what printmaking in the contemporary age has to offer.

The International Print Biennale: Selected Works exhibition runs at Northern Print, Newcastle until Saturday 19th September.
