The Fall Will Rise Again? In a way, maybe so. When the indescribable, one-off talent that was Mark E Smith died in 2018, perhaps the very greatest band this country ever birthed, The Fall, died with him. While there had been many noteworthy talents over the years who had left their own distinct fingerprints on The Fall, the band’s later years saw a core line-up of Pete Greenway on guitar, Dave Spurr on bass and Keiron Melling on drums become his longest serving and most faithful lieutenants.

Having spent eleven years forging a unique chemistry and receiving a special education from the MES school of rock ’n’ roll, the trio have since decided to honour their own legacy and push forward with a new band of their own. Having added Sam Curran as a vocalist and additional guitarist, this new band (christened Imperial Wax in honour of the first Fall album Greenway, Melling and Spurr performed together on) have their roots in the kind of twisted rockabilly and metallic post-punk of latter-day Fall but are also pushing onwards down their own path.

Their recently released debut album Gastwerk Saboteurs boasts the fingerprints of modern day garage luminaries like Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall, and suggests that the band can carry their already formed sound over into a new band and format. With Imperial Wax playing Think Tank? Underground on Friday 14th June, make sure to go and watch this exciting new chapter unfold.
