Dublin brothers Alfie and Harry Hudson-Taylor have been quietly having a string of successes in their native Ireland, scoring a number one hit with their debut EP Battles in 2012 and are slowly working up to the release this year of their first full-length effort. Taking up the folk-pop mantle left temporarily vacant by Mumford & Sons and Noah & The Whale, the pair fill their contemporaries’ shoes with ease, captivating audiences with their knack for melodies and commitment to stomping pop as much as their folk roots.

Singing For Strangers – a monster album featuring twenty one tracks – is already available in Ireland but if you’re not lucky enough to be taking a trip to the Emerald Isle soon then it’s out in the rest of the world on 23rd March. Luckily, if you can’t wait that long, then their Riverside gig will no doubt turn into a showcase for the album’s material, giving a sneak preview of unheard tracks alongside singles Chasing Rubies and Battles.

Hudson Taylor play Riverside, Newcastle on Tuesday 3rd February.
