Middlesbrough’s favourite alternative arts space House of Blah Blah already has a pretty unique selling point in its gorgeous Victorian premises on Exchange Square, but the studio and gallery space is now adding to its impressive offering.

The acquisition of a venue licence means that they are able to hold more regular events; with the addition of a unique bar in their Warehouse space, their weekly Art Bar nights will give younger artists and performers an opportunity to showcase their work. Café Blah Blah will also be open from early May, and new tenants Ten Feet Tall and a pop-up hair salon will bolster the venue’s cool points. Monthly night markets are on the cards, with street food, live music and entertainment.

A double celebration is planned on Thursday 5th May, with the first Art Bar pitching bands and DJs alongside other arty goings on. Minimal synth wave band Mausoleums and alt. grunge rockers Flowermouth will provide live entertainment alongside resident DJs spinning everything from hip-hop to garage and Motown. Pink Steam provide the arty inspiration, with new additions to the gallery including work from Jade Sweeting, Jess Armstrong, Oskar Frere-Smith, Phil Larry, Eden Calgie, Sarah Kendall and Archie Hyde, plus there’s video installations from Charlie Wood, 3D installation from Connor Clements, painting from Charlie Howard and photography courtesy of Olivia Ford.

Art Bar takes place on Thursday 5th May at House of Blah Blah, Middlesbrough.
