Knitting is not just for your grandma. It’s a phenomenon. Knitting has become increasingly popular amongst a wide range of people (men and women, young and old) and it’s becoming something of an art form. That’s certainly what community group Materialistics have picked up on as they’ve decided to combine woolly wonders with surrealism. Yes, really.

Home Is Where The Heart Is presents visitors with a giant knitted house to explore, featuring yarn-bombed driftwood, woolly wedding cakes and quilted deck chairs. The imaginative nature of Materialistics shines through in the exhibition of their work, showcasing not only their amazing textile talents but their immense vision for the group as well. Bizarre? Perhaps, but it’s all wonderful fun and shows off a more serious side to what was once only your nana’s favourite pastime.

Home Is Where The Heart Is starts exhibiting at the South Shields Museum on Saturday 7th February.
