Every so often Japanese musicians are summoned to Newcastle to elevate the city to new levels of enlightenment with their exemplary brand of untamed psychedelia. Suzuki Junzo appears almost annually to cast spells with his killer feedback wig outs, legendary bands like Boris spellbind with their hypnotically heavy tones and every once in a while Kawabata Makoto drifts through the city in one of his guises to enchant audiences with his lysergic sonic wizardry.

On Saturday 5th May at Newcastle’s Head Of Steam it’s cosmic power trio Hibushibire‘s turn to bend minds with their furious psychedelic explorations. The band’s debut studio album, Freak Out Orgasm! – an old Japanese porno slang phrase and direct translation of the band’s name – was released by Riot Season last year. It’s a thunderous and quite magnificent psych rock monster mixed by psychedelic guru Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple at his mountain top studio temple in Osaka.

Hibushibire are welcomed to Newcastle on their first ever UK tour by space heads Wandering Oak and Infinity Mirror. Completing the line-up is the freeform acid doom of Lovely Wife and the mind-altering damaged feedback of Mike Vest’s (Bong, Blown Out) solo project Lush Worker.
