When a local artist is making it big, you can’t help but feel a little twinge of regional pride. So to hear that North East singer/songwriter Hayley McKay is well on her way to a fantastic musical career is pretty great news. The country pop singer has been featured on film soundtracks, performed at mainstay festivals such as Glastonbury, and has plenty of airtime on mainstream radio. Not bad at all for a lass from Darlo.

With her new single Unspoken released this November, this is the North East’s chance to big up potentially our most significant contribution to the music scene since Sam Fender. With vocals as powerful as Dolly Parton and charmingly pretty melodies to rival Stevie Nicks, there’s bound to be a lot of excitement for her future musical ventures. In addition to working hard on her own career, McKay has done as much as she can to further the careers of others. The Grassroots Festival earlier this year gave a much needed platform to original artists, and she continues this philosophy in monthly Live & Local events at The Forum in Darlington, organised by herself in collaboration with other local faces, to ensure consistent support for North East musicians who want to get their work out into the world.

In promotion of these events, and the release of new single Unspoken, you can catch Hayley McKay and her four piece band at Live & Local on Thursday 19th December. Don’t miss it!
