From Saturday 30th July until Sunday 23rd October there’s a chance to see the three artists who’ve been shortlisted for a very exciting opportunity with the Hatton Gallery in Newcastle. The trio of Catrin Huber, Toby Paterson, and duo Harriet Sutcliffe & Jack Mutton have been selected to develop designs for a roaming pavilion (temporary architectural structure) which will tour around Newcastle and Gateshead in early 2017.

They were selected from dozens of artists who submitted proposals to an open call in spring this year, and their proposals will be on show in at the Laing Art Gallery, also in Newcastle, with their exhibition Showcase: Designs for a Touring Pavilion, which is part of the offsite programme which aims to maintain the profile of the Hatton Gallery whilst it is closed for a £3.8million refurbishment, which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. A re-opening in 2017, will see it transformed into a vibrant and modern exhibition space bringing about a new era for art and learning in the city, so this exhibition is a big step into exciting times ahead.

The Hatton Offsite Commission Exhibition takes place at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle from Saturday 30th July until Sunday 23rd October.
