Don’t miss your last chance to visit Newcastle’s Hatton Gallery this year, as the museum is due to temporarily close its doors this month.

A £3.5 million redevelopment will transform the gallery into a modern exhibition space, which will both conserve the architectural and historical elements of the building while allowing for flexible facilities, a dedicated multi-purpose learning space, new picture store and much more.

The gallery is the setting for German artist Kurt Schwitters’ iconic Merz Barn Wall, created in a Lake District barn in 1947-8. The redevelopment of the gallery will ensure further conservation and reinterpretation of the three-dimensional collage work remains possible.

Work also currently on display at the gallery includes Collections, which features artworks by Basic Design pioneers Victor Pasmore and Richard Hamilton, pop artist Eduardo Paolozzi, surrealist Francis Bacon and pieces from the early Renaissance to the late twentieth century.

A further programme of events and exhibitions across Newcastle will take place until the gallery’s reopening in September 2017.
