Currently, the Hatton Gallery are hosting collections by some of the region’s best loved and most famous artists. Victor Pasmore: In Three Dimensions spans twenty-five years of the artists’ life, looking at his development from 2D painter to 3D relief sculptor. Meanwhile, Peter Yates: Paintings 1939-1982 looks at the architect’s underrepresented abstract canvas works. Composite Mind, meanwhile, sees John and Karen Topping using archive photography to recreate the trade stands constructed by Ryder & Yates, while David Bilbrough focus on their Kenton Bar estate by using photomontages. Bringing all of these interconnected exhibitions is a one-off tour which combines the viewing experience with a critical discussion of the collections.

Keeper of Art Madeleine Kennedy is hosting the free talk and tour on the afternoon of Friday 6th March, sharing insights into the thriving North East arts scene which helped influence the long and successful careers of both Pasmore and Yates, as well as how their legacy continues to inspire artists living in the region. It promises to be an intriguing insight into some of the wider issues and concepts surrounding the two current exhibitions as well as the region’s artistic landscape.

The Hatton Exhibition Tour takes place at the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle on Friday 6th March.
