Home to HMS Tricomalee, the Maritime Experience provides a unique and lovely backdrop for Hartlepool Folk Festival, back from Friday 21st until Sunday 23rd October for a second year after the inaugural event was hailed a roaring success.
From atmospheric sets overlooking the ship, to below-decks music sessions and shanty singing on the quayside, the Maritime Experience provides a fantastic new site for imaginative concerts, workshops, sessions, sing-arounds and special events, with main stage concerts taking place at the Town Hall Theatre, a 10-minute walk away.
Friday night’s headliner is Nancy Kerr with her Sweet Visitor Band, who have reawakened folk mythology with contemporary narratives; while Irish travelling troubadour Andy Irvine headlines on the Saturday and Sunday sees local heroes The Young’uns grace the main stage with their native traditional folk.
Also on the bill, Vin Garbutt will make an appearance as part of Graeme Miles’ Ironopolis project, alongside established acts such as The Wilsons, Tom McConville and the 2 Tone Ceilidh amongst many others. Even better for Hartlepool-based music lovers, is the festival’s special ticket deal and discounted entry to the Maritime Experience itself.
