What do you do if you’ve got a maths degree? Why, become a full-time poet of course! It might seem like a strange route, but for Harry Baker it’s been a natural turn. Although he graduated with a maths degree, his love of words blossomed from a young age. He became the youngest ever Poetry World Slam Champion in 2012, with his first collection The Sunshine Kid being published in 2014. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s also one half of comedy-rap-jazz duo Harry & Chris. After a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, he’s building on that momentum with his first ever solo tour, I Am 10,000.

If the title hasn’t tipped you off, when he heads to Darlington’s Forum Music Centre on Thursday 12th March he’s marrying his love for all things lexical with his aptitude for arithmetic. After turning 10,000 days old (that’s roughly about 27 years and three months), he’s set to celebrate the magic of numbers through a fusion of comedy and spoken word. Whether it’s probing the precision of So Solid Crew’s 21 Seconds or contemplating the private lives of prime numbers, he brings wit and vibrancy to numerical ideas. If you think maths can’t be entertaining, count on Harry Baker to change your mind.
