We’ve probably all had our fill of turkey and stuffing at this time of year, but spare a thought for those whose Christmas dinners weren’t filled with joy and merriment. Austerity is still snapping at the heels of the region’s less fortunate and more and more people are turning to food banks to help supply them with the basics. That’s where The Stand, and Hardeep Singh Kohli, come in. They’re doing a night of stellar comedy to help gather supplies for food banks on Tuesday 6th January.

Kohli is best known for his broadcasting work, including appearances on political panel shows Question Time and Newsnight Review, alongside his standup comedy. He’s performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and has extended his talents to writing, earning him a place as a judge of the Man Booker Prize.

Kohli is joined by award-winning Geordie comedian Jason Cook (best known for writing and starring in TV Comedy show Hebburn with Chris Ramsey and Vic Reeves) and Carl Hutchinson, who has supported WWE legend Mick Foley on his UK tour.

Mostly, though, the night is about raising supplies and all The Stand ask that you do is bring along a bag of food and 50p for a booking charge to see the show. Everyone will have a laugh and support the less fortunate in the process: what more could you want?

Hardeep’s Charity Night for Foodbanks takes place at The Stand, Newcastle on Tuesday 6th January.
