You may not have heard of Haggard Cat, but you might have heard of their former band HECK. The infamously chaotic hardcore band were known for wreaking havoc at any venue brave enough to host them. Haggard Cat is the side project of front man Matt Reynolds and drummer Tom Marsh, and while there are no bone-breaking stage stunts, the two-piece are no less powerful, delivering face-shredding blasts of bluesy, foot-stomping rock ‘n’ roll with beefier riffs than an all-you-can-eat BBQ.

Their latest album, Challenger, has been released on the legendary Earache records and to celebrate they’re bringing those sweet riffs to venues across the country. “This is a double celebration,” explains Reynolds. “Not only will you be able to cram Challenger into your earholes for the first time by the time of this tour, but this will also be our very first headline run, EVER! So double the celebration, double the party, you like having fun right? Me too! Big riffs in tiny rooms, let’s get squashed!”

Presented by promoters of noisy loveliness Confusion Is Next, Haggard Cat’s gig at Little Buildings, Newcastle on Thursday 3rd May is probably your last chance to see them in an intimate venue before they hit festival stages this summer, playing the likes of 2000 Trees. Support comes from radgy scuzz trio Cheap Lunch and melodic garage rock ruffians Hollow Legs.
