The term “Cockney crime caper” might want you to run for the hills. After all, since Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels there’s been a string of imitations, but never one that’s bettered the original, gritty but hilarious caper. Luckily, though Hackney’s Finest takes some of the tropes of the genre, it also bends them slightly to its will in a thoroughly enjoyable romp.

Malcolm Tomlinson plays small-time drug dealer Sirius who ends up in a whole heap of trouble when a corrupt East London cop tries to steal a contingent meant for Welsh-Jamaican gangsters (yes, Welsh-Jamaican gangsters, you heard it here first).

The screening of the film is followed by a question and answer session with actor Malcolm Tomlinson, producer and actor Arin Allridge and co-producer Jack Tarling, who runs Newcastle based company Shudder Films. This is the second film that Shudder has produced in recent times, after co-producing Duane Hopkins’ drama Bypass, which recently finished its run at the Tyneside. Hackney’s Finest is just another
