Like soul? Like food? Like soul food? Then on Saturday 27th July head down to the Great Northern Soul Food event at Boiler Shop Steamer for a soul, funk, reggae and street food party.

Some of the finest street food vendors from the region will be serving a range of finger lickin’ treats, including Shanty Town Creole Barbecue and Jimmy Mac’s Soul Food Kitchen, who’ll be cooking up the best authentic American comfort food from Fried Chicken to mac ‘n’ cheese and collard greens.

To burn off those calories there will be a DJ set from headliner Don Letts. Don’s history is one of a kind, from hosting on BBC Radio 6 Music to his days in Big Audio Dynamite, to directing music videos for Bob Marley and The Clash and even winning a Grammy. Joining him is Smoove of North-East funk/soul outfit Smoove and Turrell and the GNSF DJs playing the best soul, funk, Motown and Northern Soul.

Doors and food are at 5pm. Dancing takes place when the sun goes down. Tickets are £10 (and booking fee) available here
