What can beat live music, street food, excellent beer and summer sunshine? Well nowt, obviously…get Friday 2nd-Sunday 4th August in your diary right now, as Gosforth Civic Theatre reprise their annual beer festival, and the line-up is a corker.

The family-friendly free entry weekend will see a host of regional breweries join national favourites, with Almasty, Northern Alchemy, Box Social and North Brewing Co rub shoulders with the likes of Cloudwater, Magic Rock, Summer Wine Brewery, Kernel and Wild Beer. There’s street food from Scream For Pizza, Goodtimes Tacos, Cubanos and Shanty Town, with more to be announced.

NARC. gets in on the live music action on Saturday, and we’ve curated a line-up of superb local performers to soundtrack your evening. Expect harmony-drenched folk pop from The Cornshed Sisters, slacker sounds courtesy of James Leonard Hewitson and electronic goodness from Worry Party. Sunday’s music features the finest Americana from Jumpin’ Hot Club’s Shipcote & Friends, plus blues from Michael Littlefield and folky pop from Mush.

Gosforth Civic Theatre is run by Liberdade Community Development Trust, who give people with learning disabilities and autism the opportunity to belong, work and get involved in the arts and their community, as Joseph Harrop, the theatre’s building manager and chief organiser explains: “Once again at the heart of the festival is, not only great beer, music and food, but an atmosphere where anyone can come down and have a good time. And remember, every penny you spend on the bar will go back in to Liberdade and the running of the venue, helping support people with learning disabilities and create a real artistic asset for Newcastle and the North East.”
