Brixton – nay, London’s – finest pub venue, The Windmill, has a remarkable knack for fostering local bands who go on to greater things (Shame and the various Fat White Family incarnations being perhaps the most recent examples). All of which augurs well for Goat Girl, who also happen to be all sorts of marvellous.

The four-piece follow a string of excellent and collectable seven inches with their self-titled debut this month (out on Rough Trade on 6th April), 19 tracks of lo-fi, snarling, trashabilly punk fuelled by politics and anger and a need to chronicle their home city’s decline. Deliberately English-sounding (the band themselves reference The Kinks and The Slits, which figures), the band have already proved themselves a thrilling live proposition in the last few months, and are heading out on their own headlining tour around the release of the album. They fetch up at The Cluny on Monday 9th April and I think you should be there.
