From Supergrass to solo, Oxford-born Gaz Coombes has had a career many would dream of, so to see him in The Cluny is surely a chance not to be missed. Having packed out much larger venues with the 90s alt rock sensations, the king of sideburns is now stripping it back to smaller more intimate locations, meaning the 300 capacity offers an ideal location for a night of nostalgia combined with a fantastic range of local beers…

Following the release of Madator in November, Coombes’ solo career has taken on a new found level of recognition, with a range of raving reviews, meaning the size of venues selected are somewhat of a surprise. Having already gained a couple of strong fan favourites in the form of Hot Fruit and Simulator from debut album Here Come The Bombs, Coombes has added a strong backbone of new material on Madator with tracks such as Detroit and the heartfelt 20/20.

After seventeen years of making music and touring within the sanctity of the band, it was never going to be easy to build a solo career, but Coombes has picked himself up, dusted himself down, and produced two whole heartedly brilliant records in the five years. With the pace starting to pick up, it may not be long before he starts filling out much larger venues, so this is a great opportunities to see one of the biggest names of the 90s up close and personal.

Gaz Coombes comes to The Cluny, Newcastle on Thursday 30th April.
