Reliably informed

It’s been fairly well documented that Gavin Webster was voted Comedian’s Comedian 2014. This means you know he’s not only funny but one of life’s ‘nice blokes’. Now you don’t have to be nice to be funny, but I think there’s always something comforting to hear that someone is a decent fella.

The lovely chap is setting out on a World Tour which paradoxically goes no further south than Darlington, with its northernmost points being Hexham and Whitley Bay.  But sod it, let’s not let semantics get the better of us; the important thing is that Webster is funny and can make people laugh. I recently saw him riff for five minutes on a sign across from a venue he was playing and the audience absolutely loved it.  Basically he’s a man at the top of his game.

I’d much rather see Webster than many of the TV friendly youngsters who bounce from panel show to panel show and he’s a man you’d happily have a pint with, who is just as comfortable talking about the many reasons to hate Gordon Lee as he is discussing the volatile political landscape of 70s Britain. Make sure you catch one of the remaining shows on his World Tour; he’s funny, he’s intelligent and we should be proud he’s a Tyneside native.

Gavin Webster plays Queens Hall, Hexham on Thursday 12th and Playhouse Whitley Bay on Friday 20th November.
