After the huge success of last year’s one day pilot, Gateshead Open Studios will return on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October. The open studios event combines a walking trail with the unique opportunity to meet local artists and designers and gain an insight into their creative processes. Over the weekend there will be several free workshops aimed at all ages, as well as live demonstrations carried out by the artists. Last year’s event involved a family friendly community painting project lead by William Fawkes, and this masterpiece has now been hung on the wall of Brighton Road Studios for visitors to admire.

The weekend aims to bring the community together and highlight some of Gateshead’s fantastic local talent as well as opening up stunning architectural gems that are usually closed to the public, including St Cuthbert’s Church and Brighton Road Studios. Artists taking part include Cotfield Mirrors, Raw Leather Works, Skunkworks Props, Mint Maker Studio, multi-discipline artist Claire Brown, abstract and portrait painter Kourosh Edalat, Fraoch Jewellery Designs, linocut print maker David Beaver, illustrator Maddy Bennett and NewBridge Books, with an opportunity to buy local, handmade gifts directly from the artists.

Gateshead Open Studios takes place at various venues on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October
