Formed in Brighton but now based in Glasgow, Fvnerals are a band that exist at the boundaries between genres and styles. A cursory listen to last year’s superb Wounds album reveals a band with heavy traces of doom and Neuorsis-styled experimental metal in the veins, but also with an interest in sound design more commonly found in ambient and drone artists. Combine that with a touch of the twisted death-folk of Chelsea Wolfe, a flavour of shoegaze’s melted guitar sound and the dark uplift of post-rock’s more brawny exponents, and maybe you can start to get a handle on their distinctive sound.

Needless to say, Fvnerals have been gaining plenty of admirers for their intense and emotive sound, both in their recorded work and for their busy touring schedule. They return for another Newcastle show (following previous successful dates at The Northumberland Arms – RIP) at Think Tank? Underground on Saturday 9th September for what’s sure to be a formidable performance.

Joining them on the night are First Temple of the Atom, who bring a doom-laden punch to proceedings, as well as openers Snakes Don’t Belong In Alaska, whose combination of the freer, nosier ends of psych with the potent hit of garage rock we would heartily recommend.
