Truly, there’s nothing quite like an Edinburgh preview show. You get the gift of witnessing comedians perform their rawest material, all before you see them off to the Edinburgh Fringe like a proud mother sending her baby off to college. Thanks to Teesside’s Funny Way To Be comedy club, The Witham in Barnard Castle is hosting a plethora of preview shows including double bills from Spencer Jones and Sarah Keyworth (Saturday 6th), Tom Stade and Daisy Earl (Wednesday 10th), Tom Rosenthal and Lloyd Griffith (Thursday 18th), and Lucy Beaumont and Steve Bugeja (Saturday 27th).

Top of our tip list is Tom Rosenthal, who you may have seen on Plebs or Friday Night Dinner, and Lucy Beaumont, who’s a regular on Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central. Potty-mouthed Canadian Tom Stade’s a firm favourite (he also plays Darlington Hippodrome on Tuesday 9th, FYI) and North East regular Steve Bugeja is the proud winner of a BBC New Comedy Award.

It’s also a good time to take a punt on well-reviewed acts before they make it during the Fringe, such as Chortle’s Best Newcomer Winner Daisy Earl or Pleasance Theatre’s Best Newcomer Sarah Keyworth. Then you can have all the satisfaction of saying “I saw them before they were on the telly”. The extra bonus is that all shows are affordably priced at a mere £12. You’re in for a treat.
