Reliably informed

This month promises quite a gathering down at Little Buildings on Saturday 9th September, as a bewildering array of seasoned Tyneside musicians appear in some mostly new or unfamiliar configurations.

You should all know about Fret! by now – the city’s leading surf-garage-noise trio who are on a real roll right now. Knots are an exciting Whitley Bay outfit fronted by Jimmy Atkinson (who used to be in legendary outfit Spraydog) alongside fellow Construction Yards At Night members Paul and Jonny, and they’ll be giving us something on an Unwound / Enablers / Shipping News tip, which sounds splendid. Another Spraydog alumnus is Phil Tyler, who’ll be appearing in his new Bad Amputee band incarnation, and I’ve heard tell of Codeine and Bedhead influences so that can’t be bad.

Phil crops up again in the improv-driven Flourish Wish with Jon Goodwin, Jo Burke and Jimmy from Knots again. Their description of what to expect is a simple “honestly man, who knows’”(along with tentative mentions of Low, Kogumaza and Enablers again) but having seen them in slightly different form earlier this year, I suspect it’ll be great regardless. All this, plus a cheap bar and an entirely reasonable fiver on the door adds up to a promising night in the margins.

Fret! play Little Buildings, Newcastle on Saturday 9th September.
