Reliably informed

It’s been two years since Frankie & The Heartstrings’ last album The Days Run Away came out and since then there’s been something of a void where their quirky, intelligent indie pop should go. Luckily, they’ve got a new album coming out in July and have set out across the country in anticipation of its release. On their only North East date on the tour, the five-piece are stopping off at Westgarth Social Club on Saturday 16th May to give a sneak preview of some of the new material and give some old classics a well-deserved airing.

Support comes in the form of London-based five-piece Night Flowers, whose jangly, eighties-inspired guitar pop intertwines with nineties shoegaze to form a blissful mesh of indie rock. Sitting perfectly alongside the Heartstrings, siblings Greg and Hester Ullyart’s vocals combine to create some enviable harmonies. Kicking off the night are Kingsley Chapman & The Murder, whose delectable mix of thunderous rhythms, avant-piano and classic strings are all underpinned by Kingsley’s feral vocals and razor-sharp guitar hooks.

Frankie & The Heartstrings, Night Flowers and Kingsley Chapman & The Murder play at Westgarth Social Club, Middlesbrough on Saturday 16th May.
