Reliably informed

Horrible. Just bloody horrible. And in the very best way.

This, in a nutshell, was my reaction when my copy of Foot Hair’s debut album arrived. Having formed and performed sporadically for years inside and out of Newcastle’s confines, local freakzone impresarios Box Records finally managed to coax some studio recordings out of the gang, and thus Foot Hair’s debut album was born; seven tracks stuffed to the brim with molten sludge, nihilistic punk and mind-shattering noise.

Having seen some of their early gigs, replete with the confrontational stage manner of vocalist Sam Booth (and, in hindsight, some fairly indefensible lyrical content, now wisely siphoned off in favour of pure sneering misanthropy), it’s a delight that Box Records have teamed up with promoters Leave Me Here to give Foot Hair their own headline show at The Tyne Bar on Sunday 19th July.

If tracks like King of Scum (as well as the more tongue-pokingly titled Take That) feel ready to ooze from the speakers at home, in person you can expect a full-force assault on the senses. Complete with support from Wasp Bomb and a door tax of nothing – yes, it’s a free one – prepare to end your week on a wild, frenzied note.

Foot Hair and Wasp Bomb play The Tyne Bar, Newcastle on Sunday 19th July.
