Newcastle’s Live Theatre is about to get Tango’d. New play Flying into Daylight, a celebration of Latin American dancing, receives its world premiere from Thursday 27th November to Saturday 20th December. And fear not; the style is a million miles from Strictly Come Dancing. The traditional Argentinean method is less choreographed and more low-key, while retaining some of the sizzling sexiness of the whole shabang.

It follows the story of a British woman called Virginia; should she continue her mundane life or pack it all in, travel twelve thousand miles and learn how to Tango? The new play is written by Emmy-award winning playwright Ron Hutchinson and stars Olivier Award nominated actress Summer Strallen. Will Virginia eventually follow her heart (and her feet) to the sun-soaked shores of Buenos Aires?

There will be workshops and discussions across the three-week run, including a Meet the Team talk on Thursday 4th December, getting to the nitty gritty of putting on a play, and demonstrations from the play’s musical creator and performer Julian Rowlands on Sunday 14th. There will also be Beginners’ Tango Lessons on Saturday 6th and Thursday 11th December, perfect for anyone wanting to forget the freezing weather and dance off the winter-time blues.

Flying into Daylight runs at the Live Theatre, Newcastle from Thursday 27th November until Saturday 20th December.
