Reliably informed

Has it really been three years since Field Music released their stunning last album Plumb? That record saw some of the tightest writing and instrumentation of Peter and David Brewis’ career but since then the pair have been busy working on a number of (equally excellent) side projects. But for their new tour in 2016, they won’t be performing with Ian Black in SLUG, or with Paul Smith on Frozen By Sight, or soundtracking an obscure film with Music For Drifters. This is set to be a 100%, completely unrestrained Field Music tour.

That means we can expect a flurry of airings for some Field Music classics, with their magnificently crafted classic pop-rock filling what should be a packed out Cluny for two nights running. Constantly ambitious, the pair’s intelligent and occasionally eccentric songs – including the taut and hypnotic (I Keep Thinking About) A New Thing and more experimental pieces such as See You Later – are infectious and breathlessly exhilarating in a live setting.

With such an extensive tour in the offing, perhaps we could expect a new collection of expansive and intelligent pop rock in the near future. You can only hope.

Field Music play at The Cluny, Newcastle on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th February 2016. Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday 2nd October.
