A Year Of Living Dangerously sees a range of Feliks Culpa‘s drawings, or “data events” pulled together, dictated and themed by abstract parameters and on show at B&D Studios from Thursday 9th until Tuesday 28th November.

The parameters include date, time, geo-location co-ordinates, musical notation, anniversaries, feast days, film footage and facial recognition programs. Using only black and white, avoiding colour and choice, his drawings attempt to capture, notate, locate and navigate time.

A Year of Living Dangerously is a verso dated series of 365 daily drawings derived from Hitchcock’s film, The Birds. Utilizing memetic isomorphism, A Year Of Living Dangerously is as much an abstract event calendar paying tribute to Tehching Hsieh (Doing Time), On Kawara (Date Paintings) and Vic Muniz (Verso) as it is to Alfred Hitchcock or Douglas Gordon (24 Hour Psycho). It all seeks to allow the scenes to tell different stories, acquire new memories, gather fresh dust.
This reversion to “story board” invites further re-telling, re-coding and re-sequencing.

The drawings are part of a wider exhibition taking place throughout the region celebrating the art of drawing.

Feliks Culpa’s A Year of Living Dangerously is at B&D Studios, Newcastle from Thursday 9th until Tuesday 28th November.
