Artist Amy Lord has just returned to her native North East after nearly a decade in London, and she’s back with quite the bang. She brings research and development project Experiments In Happiness to 13 Grey Street, Newcastle on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th May as part of The Late Shows, in an event produced by Mint Moon. We caught up with Amy for a chat as part of out PUG Spotlight series, which you can read here.

This new project explores ideas of ‘happiness’ and mood, and is hosted in a building Amy has thrown herself into, to make something very special indeed, with multiple spaces housing some spectacular artworks and interactive experiences across three floors. Using science, psychology and philosophy, she and her cohorts explore a great deal of what ‘happiness’ is all about.

Other local artists involved are Rosa Poselthwaite, Lizzie Klotz and Zoe Murtagh and Mint Moon is also working with Northumbria University MA Architecture students to design the ground floor pop up bar/cafe space. There are cocktails available too from Your Happy Place, and a whole lot more besides. It’s all free, though there is limited capacity. With start times of 5pm on the 19th and 2pm on the 20th and running through until 11.30pm both days, this exciting exhibition is going to be something that’ll be talked about for a long time after.

Experiments In Happiness is at 13 Grey Street, Newcastle on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th May.
