Reliably informed

As the frontman of much-missed counter-Britpop correctionists Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, one-half of the duo Jonny (alongside Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake) and an acclaimed and remarkably prolific solo artist, Euros Childs has spent the last quarter of a century slowly refining and expanding his distinct songwriting style. Touting a blend of sophisticated melodicism, experimental impulses and unconstrained exuberance, Childs has a key influence on a legion of odd pop luminaries, from Of Montreal through to newcomers Girl Ray.

This month sees the release of his latest – and remarkably, his thirteenth to date – solo album House Arrest. Recorded with the assistance of Sweet Baboo, House Arrest is another dose of sweet (but never sickly) delights that expound on Childs’ unique, kitchen-sink psychedelia.

His upcoming tour brings him on a return visit to Newcastle on Saturday 25th November to the always-astounding environs of The Mining Institute, courtesy of the good people at The Star & Shadow Cinema (whose previous venue has hosted Childs before, with work ongoing to complete their new and keenly awaited new venue on Warwick Street.) You’d be well advised not to wait around too long to grab your tickets to catch Childs in this intimate and grand venue.
