After a break of more than a year, Escape Velocity is back for its sixth incarnation. Having previously held events at Newcastle’s Head of Steam, NARC’s very own Paul Brown takes his semi-regular showcase across the bridge to Gateshead and what a line up he has in store for us. Headlining will be London based, post-punk four-piece Desperate Journalist, who released their long-awaited debut record on Fierce Panda records earlier this year. With a new EP – Good Luck – set for release, they will be hitting the Central Bar on Saturday 10th October as part of a full nationwide tour, with their brand of Smiths-style jangly guitars and vocalist Jo Bevan coming across for all the world like a female Morrissey. If you need further encouragement, check out the video to lead single Perfect Health, the perfect accompaniment to the end of summer.

Glasgow’s fantastic Life Model are also on the bill with their sultry dream pop. Sophie Evans’ beautiful vocals can melt the hearts of even the most cynical of shoegazers, and never more so than on their latest single, Lilt. Escape Velocity will now hopefully be back for good, especially with another event – featuring Bristol’s Trust Fund – lined up for November.

Desperate Journalist and Life Model play at The Central, Gateshead on Saturday 10th October.
