Jake Gyllenhaal is fast proving that he’s one of the most talented and exciting actors of recent years. After being utterly magnetic in 2014’s Nightcrawler, he’s returning to the big screen to act in another brilliant thriller in the shape of Enemy, which comes to the Tyneside Cinema on Friday 2nd January.

Gyllenhaal stars as Adam Bell, a glum history professor who becomes increasingly disinterested in his own life. On the recommendation of a friend, he watches a movie where he sees his double: bit-part actor Anthony Clair. Bell decides to track him down and their lives become eerily intertwined as soon as they meet.

Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve creates a hypnotic and surreal vision of the two men, making Enemy an experience that is difficult to shake off long after the final image has faded.

Enemy screens at the Tyneside Cinema from Friday 2nd January.
