The Commercial Union House in the centre of Newcastle has become an unexpected, unassuming hub for art and artists, providing studio space for artists, exhibition and venue space and even a home for record shop newcomer 586 Records.

On Saturday 21st March, The Northern Charter, who run an art gallery space up on the fifth floor of the Commercial Union House, will be opening their doors up for a superb night of innovative music from the region and beyond, the latest in a series of experimental performance nights hosted in the space.

Opening on the night are the striking duo Yeah You. Purveyors of striking, subversive electronics, Elvin Brandhi and Mykl Jaxn have steadily been making a name for themselves as purveyors of challenging but immediate glitch-pop and as a real live force. There’s also the chance to catch the brilliant Pentecostal Party. This writer was introduced to the intoxicating lo-fi surrealism of this one-woman project by her superb set for Richard Dawson’s album launch last November: prepare for a haunting and memorable performance. Headlining on the night are the new duo Emotional (comprising Sian Dorrer of Ravioli Me Away and Adam Parkinson from Man with Feathers), making their much-anticipated Newcastle debut with their lush, metamodern take on performative sincerity.

Emotional, Pentecostal Party and Yeah You all play at Northern Charter, Newcastle on Saturday 21st March.
