Reliably informed

You may find it surprising that a performer whose consummate lack of belief in himself and his abilities could produce such hilarity, but that’s definitely the case with comedian Ed Aczel. It’s difficult to know if the part-time marketing manager’s ‘ordinary bloke’ persona and faltering, at times positively awkward, façade is all part of the act or not, but critics obviously find enough in his routines to regularly bestow praise, plus he’s a BBC New Comedy Awards runner-up and So You Think You’re Funny semi-finalist.

Aczel’s latest show, the interestingly titled The Random Flapping of a Butterfly’s Wings, takes in Newcastle’s Stand comedy club on Sunday 7th February, and promises to “change the world, once and for all”. Expect Aczel’s deadpan delivery, at times surreal tangents, and a just damn strange performance which circles around history, maths, improvised comedy and his own bizarre inner psyche, producing a show which may baffle but will certainly offer something totally different.

Ed Aczel is at The Stand, Newcastle on Sunday 7th February.
