Reliably informed

Having recently released his debut album, What Green Feels Like, on influential indie label Heavenly Recordings, Eaves – aka Joseph Lyons – will bring his nuanced alt. folk to Stockton’s Georgian Theatre on Tuesday 20th October. The Leeds-based songwriter bears a passing sonic resemblance to Messrs Buckley (Jeff as well as dad Tim), with a downtrodden vocal delivery and plenty of musical subtleties, as on Dove In Your Mouth, in which acoustic melodies flit and flicker amidst soft percussive breakdowns culminating in a hard-hitting finale which speaks more of heavy rock than soft folk. Fans of Nick Drake and Bon Iver will find much to like here, with Eaves’ music displaying a warmth and eclecticism that’s distinctly at odds to the sterile jangle folk of recent tour mates Mumford & Sons. Eaves’ storytelling style belies his 23 years; combined with compelling vocals and an approach which can never quite be predicted, he’s certain to put on a memorable performance.
