The North East’s most hyped band of late (and rightly so), EAT FAST (formerly known as EAT) release their superb debut EP Fenham Dread (Lock) on 13th May. Appearing almost out of nowhere, and capturing the imagination of the UK music press with acclaim from the likes of The Line of Best Fit and DIY, EAT FAST are still somewhat shrouded in mystery, but let’s just say they’re something of a local super-group, featuring former members of three now-defunct but much-loved local bands.

Fenham Dread (Lock) consists of four blasts of fuzzy lo-fi garage pop, their sweet sunshine melodies soaked in scuzz and delivered with just the right amount of snotty punk attitude, reminiscent of the likes of Wavves or Cloud Nothings. Stammer is perhaps the stand-out (though the whole EP is sublime); an exhilarating anthem complete with reverb-drenched vocals and soaring harmonies. With an LP already recorded, EAT FAST play their first proper North East date as part of Evolution Emerging on Saturday 28th May – catch them on The Cluny stage while you can, as this time next year they’re bound to be playing much bigger stages.
