BRASS is back! For ten days in July, Durham and its surrounding areas will once again be filled with the glorious sound of trumpets, tubas and more. This year’s BRASS festival is the eleventh annual event and as always there’s something for everyone, from Northern Soul courtesy of Yorkshire band Keep the Faith to a unique screening of iconic British film Brassed Off, where musicians can bring their own instruments to the theatre to play along with the characters on screen.

There’s also Venetian Surround Sound in Durham Cathedral, and tickets are already on sale for BRASS on Broadway at the Gala, where north east West End stars Matt Corner (Jersey Boys) and Kate Graham (Billy Elliot) will perform swing versions of songs from musicals along with the Scottish Swing Orchestra.

The festival also means the return of the popular Big BRASS Bash tour – five evenings of free music in parks around County Durham, beginning in Spennymoor and ending in Wharton Park –  courtesy of old favourites Oompah Brass, festival newcomers Back Chat Brass and perennial joy-bringers Hope & Social – guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

The festival culminates in the two-day Streets of BRASS finale in Durham Market Place and takes place from Friday 7th July to Sunday 16th July.

Durham BRASS Festival runs from Friday 7th to Sunday 16th July.
