Local punk folk outfit Driven Serious launch a brand new release this month, backed by three live tracks and an epic video.

Ballad of Bones begins incongruously enough; a lonely violin sadly intones the melody, but as the vocals and other instruments pile in, the strings become agitated, cymbals clash, acoustic guitar adds depth and rhythm, and the idiosyncratic vocal delivery charges into a maelstrom of instrumentation. It’s the sort of track that would cause mayhem live, with its twisting and turning tempo and shout-along lyrics; fittingly, the band are celebrating the release of the track with a special gig at Newcastle’s Mining Institute on Saturday 5th March, which will serve as the premiere for Ballad of Bones’ accompanying video. An ambitious project, created by filmmaker Jason Thompson at Lemmington Hall in Northumberland, the video features a cast of over 40 extras, largely from the Steampunk community who have taken Driven Serious to their hearts. The gig offers the perfect opportunity to see the distinctive act in all their live glory.
