We’ve all been there: at a family gathering or a dinner with friends and someone pulls out their phone so that everyone can gaze upon a seemingly never ending flip through their latest holiday snaps. Mind you, that someone probably hasn’t had nearly as exciting a holiday as Dom Joly.

The Beirut-born comedian has recently taken it upon himself to traverse some of Planet Earth’s riskiest locations in the name of entertainment. I’m not sure what the travel guides are like for Chernobyl or North Korea, but rest assured that Joly is here to give us the rundown of his own exploits from Syria to the Congo via his trusty PowerPoint show in Dom Joly’s Holiday Snaps, which comes to Durham’s Gala Theatre on Tuesday 25th and Yarm’s Princess Alexandra Auditorium on Saturday 29th February.

Joly has always had a hankering for finding the funny in the otherwise mundane: his hit TV show Trigger Happy TV made everyday situations – from answering mobile phones in public to using pedestrian crossings and pavement artistry – award-winningly hilarious. With that resume, it looks like his first touring show since 2011 will be a highly interesting jaunt through the memories of his thrilling and downright dangerous journeys, and will no doubt leave you thinking it’s time to step up your holiday game.
