The latest addition to an increasingly packed festival season in the North East is DJAZZ, a weekend of jazz (in all its flavours) being promoted by Empty Shop and Durham University Jazz Society. Running from June 2nd – 4th, DJAZZ offers more than two dozen events at seven venues across the three days and weekend passes are an austerity-friendly tenner. Venues include the Empty Shop (of course), the wonderful Old Cinema Launderette and the Jam Jah Club at Allington House, which is hosting the closing party on Sunday 4th with a mixture of live jams and resident Jam Jah DJs.

Other highlights include Hand To Mouth (aka Lindsay Hannon and Bradley Johnston) in a Joe Pass / Ella Fitzgerald-inspired collaboration at the Barber Of Neville, the Durham University Big Band at Durham Miners Hall (both on the Saturday), a trio of Jazz Jams at the Empty Shop HQ across the three evenings (all musicians welcome) and a performance by gypsy swing outfit Swing Manouche on the opening evening in the charming surroundings of the Old Cinema Launderette, with the trio offering a blend of jazz standards, Django Reinhardt selections and some original tunes too. With plenty of other acts playing across the weekend too, there’s a wide range of delights over the DJAZZ weekend.

DJAZZ is at various venues from Friday 2nd until Sunday 4th June.
