Post punk rising stars Desperate Journalist have been pulling in some radio play and attention from all the right places of late, so a first ever Newcastle show (having previously played The Central in Gateshead) will be something special and garner a chance to impress a new audience with their retro, dark new-wave noise.

With Jumpin’ Jacks playing host, the gig is pulled together by local label and promoters Endearment Records. They are a band hugely on the rise with Radio 1 airplay recently and strong reviews for their new album Grow Up and it’s not hard to see why. Newcastle is about to say hello to a band that will no doubt be back again and again, as their twisted, tortured alternative pop sounds are set to see them make a real mark for themselves.

There’s support from local talents Luxury, whose retro The Cure-esque tracks are an ideal fit to set the right tone for what follows. There’s also the mighty fine alt pop of Newcastle favourites Slurs. With fuzzy guitars an fixture throughout all that this tantalising trio of bands offer up, this Newcastle show for Desperate Journalist should be a treat for anyone looking for a classic indie fix.
