If you’re in the market for an incredibly eclectic Saturday evening then you shouldn’t hesitate to head straight to Empty Shop HQ on Saturday 5th December, for Durham-based wunderkinds Sapien Records are putting on a show that promises to offer some decidedly impressive variety.

The four-band bill is headlined by the Hetton-le-Hole eight-piece folk rock & brass outfit Dennis, whose folk vibes have been highly championed by Radio 6’s Steve Lamacq. Dennis blend your conventional guitar-bass-drums set-up with baroque brass, which gives their high-tempo, upbeat folk a unique and charming character.

Joining them are Outside Your House, who describe themselves as a barely rap duo who blend folk and Brit-hop together to form something utterly unique and surreal. Their sound combines acoustic guitars with sampled beats, spoken word poetry and twisted vocal harmonies that are truly in a league of their own.

Meanwhile, solo artist Scott Michael Cavagan promises a set that will have all the feedback-driven energy of his recently released Neon Lights EP, a vicious storm of energy that further represents the sheer diversity of the music that is being unleashed from the borders of Durham.

Rounding things off are the enigmatic trio Twin Pines, who are playing their second show as a band in the Empty Shop, only a mere month after their formation.

This year has seen Durham become more and more prominent as a venue for eclectic and unique local music, and this show will very firmly reinforce this.
