If laughter is the best medicine, then prepare to receive more than the recommended dose. Darlington Comedy Festival is bringing giggles, chortles, belly laughs and more to the town from Saturday 7th to Friday 27th July. Household names like Gary Delaney and Rob Rouse perform at Bannatyne Hotel (Monday 16th), while Steve Day and Steve Bugeja take to the Old English Gentleman stage (Wednesday 18th). Also at the same venue, Seymour Mace & The Delightful Sausage perform (Thursday 12th) which, if its title lives up to expectations, should be a surreal delight; plus there’s upper crust rebellion courtesy of Tom Houghton, also at Old English Gentleman (Wednesday 11th)

Hilarity Bites’ own regular comedy club gets in on the act too, with Russell Hicks, Paul Pirie and host Freddy Quinne taking to The Forum (Saturday 7th), and there’s bitesize Bites from Lauren Pattison, whose recent rib-tickling yet empowering show Lady Muck attracted a wealth of critical acclaim, and Andy Fury among others performing at Hole In The Wall (Monday 9th). Geordie favourite Chris Ramsey will be popping to the Hippodrome as part of his latest run, The Just Happy To Get Out Of The House Tour (Tuesday 24th). It’s fair to predict that the entire festival will definitely be worth heading out for.
