Whether it’s a foreign masterpiece, an ultra-violent gore-fest, a quirky comedy or something that’s just so bad it’s good, chances are that you’ll love at least one cult classic on the list for the latest all-nighter at the Tyneside Cinema. The ultimate endurance test in cinema-going returns with one of its most diverse line ups yet but one that will delight all you cinephiles.

The night kicks off with Prince in Purple Rain, offering you the opportunity to get your lighters out and sing along to one of the greatest rock songs ever written as well as other classics from the Purple One, including Let’s Go Crazy, I Would Die 4 U and When Doves Cry. It’s followed by something completely different in the shape of the first appearance from Freddy Krueger in Nightmare On Elm Street (it is nearly Halloween after all). Slacker comedies Clerks and The Big Lebowski take us past midnight, before it’s time to get truly disgusting with some over the top filth in John Waters’ Pink Flamingos. Evil Dead II and What We Do In The Shadows continue to add to the horror-comedy tally before Plan 9 From Outer Space is screened in all its shabby, awful but frankly amazing glory. For that ultra-violent twist, look no further than a bunch of schoolchildren fighting to the death in Japanese horror classic Battle Royale and then prepare to make a tough decision as The Princess Bride, Napoleon Dynamite and Sightseers round off the night (or, by that point, morning).

If you can last the ten hours that the films will be running, then you’ll be able to call yourself a cult classic master.

The Great Cult Classic All-Nighter comes to the Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle on Saturday 17th October.
