Reliably informed

One of William Shakespeare’s most recognisable tales Romeo And Juliet has been imagined and re-imagined in so many different, inventive ways, that it’s always a surprise when someone manages to find a new twist on it. That’s exactly what Cranked Anvil have done though, as the star-crossed lovers have new life breathed into them as opposing football fans across the Tyne Wear divide, in a play that comes to Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle from Tuesday 26th until Friday 29th April. There are also showings at Stanley’s Alun Armstrong Theatre on Saturday 29th April and The Customs House in South Shields on Thursday 19th May.

With end of season tension at an all time high, there couldn’t be a more apt time to capture the rivalry the Magpies and The Black Cats have between them. The backdrop a brilliantly vibrant way to show the obstacles the duo have to overcome in a modern-day retelling of the much loved play. Passions run high, and the ancient grudge between black-and-white and red-and-white is a fresh new centre for the greatest love story ever told.

Cranked Anvil’s Romeo And Juliet comes to Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle from Tuesday 26th until Friday 29th April.
