Two artists have united over their love of intense, pure colour. Craigie Aitchison and Anthony Frost are both renowned printmakers, with recurring motifs throughout their screenprinting something which really makes them stand out, and their new exhibition comes to Gallagher And Turner in Newcastle. All in association with Advanced Graphics, London, as part of the 2016 International Print Biennale, the largest and most prestigious printmaking event in the UK, there’s a chance to see this incredible use of colour from Friday 15th September until Saturday 16th October.
With Frost’s love of music a huge influence on his use of bold shapes, broad strokes and quick dots; it’s all a delightful contrast to Aitchison’s sparse but considered compositions of crucifixions or Bedlington terriers, which build to create a spiritual, poetic atmosphere. The visuals on show will really grab you, the measured and calm clashing and drawing out the best in the more abstract and expressionist for a truly remarkable exhibition.
